Bishop Stresses The Importance of a Catholic Education

“Catholic education is integral education,” which aims to “develop the physical, mental and moral faculties of the child” to prepare him for both his future and the next life.
This is how Bishop Jacinto Jose of the Diocese of Urdaneta describes the kind of education a child receives from a Catholic School in his Pastoral Letter on Catholic Education in the Diocese of Urdaneta.
In the Pastoral Letter, the bishop recognizes that Christian education  should begin in the home with parents as the child’s first teachers. However, in the same letter, the Bishop explains that the “parents cannot provide for the full Christian education of their children” at home. It is the responsibility of the parents, Bishop Jose said, to find a school to complete this Christian education which begins at home. Parents and guardians are reminded of their obligation to provide Christian education for their children. And if their finances allow it, the bishop said it is the duty of the parents to send their children to a catholic school.
The bishop thanked parents who entrust their children to Catholic schools as well as the school directors, teachers, administrators and staff of these schools who devote their time educating the children entrusted to them. He also encourage the pupils and students of these catholic schools to take full advantage  of this privilege provided by a Catholic education system, telling them of the expectation that they (pupils and students) “become witnesses of the Gospel to our faith communities and responsible citizens of our nation.”
