Mayoyao Mission Celebrates 60th Foundation Anniversary

To celebrate its 60th Foundation Anniversary, the Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Station and its school, the Assumption Academy in Mayoyao, Ifugao held a three-day celebration which culminated on August 15, 2011.

A triduum mass was celebrated to mark the occasion. Fr. Cirilo Ebisa, SVD of Aguinaldo, Ifugao was the celebrant on August 13 while Mayoyao’s Fr. Aljiovanie Abrasado, SVD celebrated the mass on August 14. Bishop Rodolfo Beltran of the Vicariate Apostolic of Bontoc Lagawe was the main celebrant during the August 15 celebration.

With the theme “Strong in Faith and Loving Service to the Community," the affair had spiritual, social and temporal components. The highlights included a Bible Quiz Bee, baptism, first communion and confirmation rites.

August 13 was ‘Family Day’ where a parade by students, teachers, parents and alumni was held.  The next day was ‘Harvest Festival’ where the community offered agricultural products, mostly rice, as thanksgiving. The third and last day was ‘Teachers and Students' Day’ where a vocation promotion and friendship game were held.

This school year, together with the parents and alumni, Assumption Academy intends to complete its 1M Signature Fund with various fund raising activities. This was started in 1998 by Fr. Oscar Alunday, SVD.
