Mining Operation Continues in Cagayan Valley

Confreres from Cagayan district headed by the local Superior Fr. Bernard Teneza, SVD and the PHN JPIC Coordinator Fr. Gerardo Gudmalin, SVD attended a clergy discernment and meeting where the mining situation in Region II was discussed.
This was conducted at the Parish of Aparri, Cagayan on August 29, 2011.
Black sand mining continues in some coastal areas of Cagayan. It was agreed that a pastoral letter will be issued. It was also agreed in that meeting that a module would be designed for an education and information campaign regarding mining. The pastoral letter and module will be ready for the Christ the King Celebration in the province of Cagayan on November 20, 2011.  Fr. Teneza asserts that mining operations in the province can be stopped when the community stands united to defend their rights.  (Fr. Gerardo Gudmalin, SVD)
