23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 5, 2010

Wis 9, 13-18
Philem 9-10.12-17
Lk 14, 25-33

Many mistakes occur because often we don’t think things out. We decide on the spur of the moment. For instance there are those who express the desire to enter the seminary; but once inside, they are confronted with numerous community rules and regulations. They say, “Oops, I did not know it was going to be like this!” so they turn around and leave.

In the gospel Jesus warns us about the need to thinking things through. So we want to follow him; ok, here are the conditions: detachment from self and loved ones so as to focus on following him; accepting life’s trials without grumbling or complaining against God. Are we ready for this, or will we just opt for the “church-attendance only” Christianity with none of the Lord’s further requirements.

Consequences, consequences, consequences. Every decision, every action has consequences, including and especially about being Christ’s disciples. Now what?
